France has distributed around 1 GW of projects in the latest tender for onshore wind turbine capacity. The originally German energy company RWE has been awarded the largest volume.
Increased price
The French CRE (Energy Regulatory Commission ) has published the results of the latest tender round for onshore wind energy (AO 14). The tender round resulted in 93 proposals for a combined capacity of 1801 MW against a target of 925 MW. It ultimately resulted in the awarding of 57 projects for a selected capacity of 1007 MW at an average of 87.23 euros/MWh. The average price has increased compared to the previous tender round, when the price was 86.94 euros/MWh.
RWE largest player
RWE will become the most important player in the French onshore market. RWE successfully awarded 8 of the 57 wind projects in the latest bidding round. With a guaranteed capacity of 108.7 MW, RWE is the second largest developer in terms of total allocated wind capacity. VSB has been awarded a 33 MW project. Other winners include Qair, Eolfi, Kallista Energy, Engie Green, Enertag, Octopus Energy, Axpo Group, EDF Renouvelables and Valorem.
The eight projects financed by RWE are mainly located in the north of France, in the regions of Haute-France and Normandy. The first commissioning is expected in 2025 and should last until 2028.
On to 10 GW of onshore wind
The tender for onshore wind energy was carried out under France's multi-year energy procurement program PPE2, through which the country aims to allocate 28.9 GW of renewable capacity until 2026, including almost 10 GW of onshore wind energy.
