On February 29, 2024 at 9:00 am, RVO will start the tender for 2 permits in the IJmuiden wind energy area Ver on the North Sea. The tender issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate includes the Alpha and Bèta plots, which licenses 4 gigawatts of wind energy in one go. This amounts to 6 GW in total: the largest capacity ever in the Netherlands. The application page is here .

Wind energy area IJmuiden Ver (IJV)
The total area of the 3 plots in this wind energy area (including the maintenance and safety zones) is approximately 650 km². There are also expected to be 3 wind farms. The wind energy area is located 62 km off the west coast of the Netherlands and has a capacity of 6 GW, 2 GW per plot. The wind farms will be located more than 60 kilometers from the Dutch coast, near IJmuiden. They are expected to be put into use in 2029 and 2030. ( Here are the requirements for the site decisions.)

First direct current connections
Grid operator TenneT will install 3 platforms with 3 grid connections in the area. TenneT's platforms all have a 2 GW direct current connection to a land station. This is the first time in the Netherlands. With direct current, the voltage on the electricity grid remains constant. Compared to alternating current, there is less energy loss during the transport of energy. Particularly important for wind farms that are further away from the coast.
The award criteria include the extent to which the applicant takes into account the integration of the electricity produced in the energy system; the government wants to stimulate solution-oriented and innovative bids.
Ecology and circularity criteria
Various additional criteria are taken into account. For example, it is important to what extent the submitter takes into account the principles of International Corporate Social Responsibility (IMVO) . Ecology and circularity are also important points in the tenders. It is examined to what extent:
- Maximize the use and reuse of raw materials
- Environmental impact and value retention in the design, construction, operation and disposal of the wind farm
