Wind energy was discussed during the recent hearings of the Commissioners-designate in the European Parliament. While the focus was mainly on the broader climate goals and the transition to sustainable energy sources, Dan Jørgensen, the Danish candidate for the Energy and Housing portfolio, stressed the importance of wind energy for the future energy supply of the EU. The statements underline the joint commitment of the future European Commission to further develop wind energy and integrate it into the European energy mix.

Wopke Hoekstra
The Dutch candidate for the Climate and Clean Growth portfolio, Wopke Hoeksta, did not explicitly mention wind energy during his hearing in the European Parliament on 7 November 2024. However, he did emphasise the importance of renewable energy sources, including wind energy, for achieving the EU's climate targets. He said that measures against climate change cannot be delayed and that the threat is "crystal clear".
In the accompanying press release, Hoeksta argues that the Green Deal lays the foundation for the EU's green transition and that it is essential to maintain the continuity of the EU's climate ambitions. He hopes to achieve this by concluding ongoing climate negotiations swiftly and proposing an ambitious 2040 climate target in the first quarter of 2024.
